#1 Proverbs 1:7 (ESV)

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;  fools despise wisdom and instruction.

문법 포인트 1. 거의 모든 언어에서 문장은 주어와 술어로 나누어 질수 있을거에요. 그런데 문장이란 무엇일까요? 다음에서 문장이 무엇인지 골라보세요. 
1) the beginning of knolwege. 2) despise wisdom. 3)  Fear the Lord!  4) Because I love you. 

정답은 3)만이 유일하게 문장입니다. 문장이란 첫째, 대부분의 경우 주어와 술어를 갖고 있고, ( A sentence usually contains a subject and a predicate.) 두번째, 대문자로 시작해서  마침표와 같은 구두점으로 끝나며 (  It begins with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark.), 세번째 하나의 온전한 개념이 들어 있어야 해요. ( A sentence contains a complete thought). 이 세가지가 모두 충족될때 "문장 sentence"로 인정받습니다.  4)경우 첫 두가지는 만족하지만 because 주어+동사로만 끝나면 complete thought가 될수가 없어요. 1), 2)는 주어 동사가 없어요. 3)에는 주어는 없지만 명령문이기 때문에 주어가 숨어 있지요. 그래서 첫번째 조건에서 "대부분의 경우 usually" 주어 동사가 있다라고 표현한 것이랍니다. 

묵상:  예전에 열심으로 신앙생활과 교회생활을 하던 때가 있었습니다. 좋은 점도 많았지만 제 안에 영적 교만도 함께 자라갔던 시간이 되었습니다. "나는 좀 알고 있어"라는 생각이 좀처럼 떠나지 않았습니다. 나이가 들고 인생경험들을 통해서  영적 허영의 거품이 꺼지면서 제가 기억하려하고 컴퓨터 앞에 붙여둔 글귀가 있습니다. "알면 알수록 모르는게 많아진다." 신앙에서도 제 직업에서도 마찬가지 인듯합니다.  기도: 주님 오늘도 기억하겠습니다. 여호와를 경외하는 것이 배움의 시작이며,  "스스로 안다"라는 자부심은 바보라는 증거임을요. 

After I accepted Jesus Christ as my God, I served the church with passion. At that time, I learned a lot about God and the Bible, but after a while, spiritual pride crept into my character as well.  The mind-set of "I know a lot'' has been stuck to me deep inside.  But as I went through many life experiences,  God showed me my overbearing attitude, and he helped me break it down. Now, everyday, I try to remember that "the more you know, the more you find you don't know." This principle applies to my spiritual journey and as well as to my career.  Prayer: Lord, I will remember that the fear of the Lord is the starting point of learning, and if I despise your words, it proves that I am a fool.
