Word Stress Pattern (2음절, 3음절 단어)

중국어에는 4성조가 있는데, 영어에는 4가지 종류의 'STRESS(강세)'가 있어요. 
● Major phrase/sentence stress: 문장이나 구(phrase) 강세인데, 구나 문장에서 가장 중요한 단어 혹은  보통, 문장에서 마지막으로 강세를 받는 음절이 됩니다.  
● Primary stress 단어 안에서 가장 강세를 받는 음절
ⓞ seconday stress 단어 안에서 강세를 받는데  primary보다는 덜 받는 것.
⊙ weak  아예 강세가 없는 것. 

예를 들어,
Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president of the United States. 
 first, states는 1음절 단어란것 아시죠? 음절이란 철자 아닌 소리나는 음들중에 모음을 하나 갖고 있는 것이랍니다.   U/ni/ted, pre/si/dent 3음절. 그리고 강세는 음절이 받는 것이지, 모음 하나만 받는 것이 아니고요. 
4종류의 강세를 표시해 볼께요.

근데 단어만 볼때는 강세의 종류가  3가지 (Primary, secondary, weak)만 있겠죠.  Major phrse/sentence stress는 문장안에서만 찾을수 있으니까요.  그래서 강세와 억양을 제대로 연습하려면 문장으로 하는 것이 필요하답니다. 
한편, Abraham Lincoln이름만 말할 때는 아래처럼 바뀌어요.
